Kali Mata Temple Attack in Hyderabad Sparks Protest by Hindu Community

Hyderabad, Sindh: Tensions briefly escalated in Hyderabad after an alleged attack on the Kali Mata Temple in the Fateh Chowk area triggered protests by members of the Hindu community, raising concerns over the safety of minority places of worship in the province.

Protest and Road Blockade Disrupt Traffic

According to initial reports, unidentified individuals vandalised parts of the temple, causing damage and spreading fear among residents of the locality. While the full extent of the destruction remains unclear, the incident quickly mobilised the local Hindu community, who gathered in large numbers to demand justice and protection.

Dozens of protesters staged a sit-in at Fateh Chowk, blocking major roads for several hours and causing significant traffic disruption during peak hours. Demonstrators chanted slogans in support of religious freedom, minority rights, and immediate action against those responsible for the attack.

Police Intervention Restores Calm

A video circulating on social media, shared by Mangla Sharma, showed protesters demanding justice and highlighting concerns about recurring threats faced by the community.

One protester, identified as Lashman, stated that the sit-in would continue until authorities ensured their safety and took strict action. He also alleged that similar incidents had occurred in the past but went unreported claims that have not yet been officially verified.

Law enforcement officials, including senior officers, reached the site and initiated dialogue with protest leaders to defuse tensions. Among them was Maria Sario, head of the Hyderabad Women and Children’s Section, who reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to safeguarding minority communities.

Senior police authorities confirmed that a prompt response was launched, including the detention of suspects linked to the vandalism. Following negotiations and assurances from the administration, the protest was peacefully dispersed, and traffic flow was restored without any reported injuries.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident and pledged strict action against those involved. Officials stated that maintaining peace and ensuring the protection of all religious communities remains a top priority.

The incident has once again highlighted ongoing concerns among minority groups regarding the security of their places of worship. Community leaders have urged the government to implement long-term measures to prevent such incidents and strengthen interfaith harmony across Sindh.
