Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated after Tehran strongly condemned the reported US blockade of its ports, calling it an “act of war” and a direct violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that the blockade represents a serious breach of international norms and threatens to derail already fragile diplomatic efforts. In a post on X, he stated, “Blockading Iranian ports is an act of war and thus a violation of the ceasefire.”

He further accused US forces of escalating the situation by targeting commercial activity, adding, “Striking a commercial vessel and taking its crew hostage is an even greater violation.” The remarks signal growing anger in Tehran and raise concerns over potential retaliation if tensions continue to rise.
Amid the escalating rhetoric, international observers have warned that any direct confrontation could quickly spiral into a broader regional crisis. The United Nations has urged both sides to exercise restraint, emphasizing the need to protect civilian shipping routes and maintain stability in the region’s critical waterways.
Meanwhile, defense analysts suggest that Iran may respond by increasing its military presence in strategic maritime zones, particularly in the Persian Gulf, where tensions have historically triggered global energy concerns. Any disruption to shipping lanes could have immediate consequences for oil prices and international trade.
