Karachi: The Sindh government has launched a province-wide crackdown on public service vehicles. The move targets vehicles without valid route permits and fitness certificates. As a result, authorities aim to improve passenger safety and enforce transport laws.
According to an official notification issued on Thursday, many vehicles are violating the rules. In fact, officials found that several inter-city and intra-city vehicles are operating without proper documents. Moreover, some vehicles are using expired permits and certificates.
Strict Enforcement Under Motor Vehicle Laws
To address this issue, the government has ordered strict enforcement of transport laws. These include the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 and the Motor Vehicles Rules 1969.
Digital System Introduced for Transparency
Under these laws, all public transport vehicles must carry valid route permits and fitness certificates. In addition, drivers must keep all required documents available at all times. Therefore, authorities have been directed to take immediate action against violators.
The move comes amid ongoing energy challenges following disruptions in LNG supplies after Qatar declared force majeure due to regional tensions.
Pakistan relies heavily on Qatar for LNG imports, with long-term contracts covering up to 1,000 mmcfd, making the disruption significant for the country’s energy and transport sectors.
Officials say the crackdown reflects a zero-tolerance policy towards violations in the transport sector. The initiative aims to ensure passenger safety, enforce fair pricing, and bring transparency through digital governance.
Transport authorities have urged operators to comply immediately, warning that non-compliance will result in penalties, fines, and possible suspension of operations.
